New group campsite arranged

June 24, 2005

Following the closure of the Barebones group campsite (see below) one of the Barebones competitors, Donna Fluegel, has arranged group camping at Jarvis Bay Provincial park. You should contact Donna directly (DonnaBF @ aol.com), before July 9th. Here are the details:

I've found us a campground for Barebones, with a lake and mini-golf!

I've booked us in Jarvis Bay (http://www.jarvisbaycampground.com/) on the shore of scenic Sylvan Lake. One of the Barebones bigwigs agrees that it's a good spot, although a bit far from the events (the original camping location was far too, so that's not really a change).

We have a group site that will hold all of us comfortably. The fee will be $18 CAD per night per tent (a little less if we have more than 8 units - it's a very confusing way to charge people, but we will figure it out.)  I've paid for the first night for 8 tents, plus a $6 registration fee.  This $146 CAD is non-refundable, so I hope to see at least 8 tents there the first night.

We are in Group Camp B-1.  You can set up camp on July 18 after 2pm. We must be out by noon on July 21.  When you enter the camp, give the gate attendant our registration number -- A30428.

If there are others who wish to join us, let them know we have the space.

Barebones campsite closed due to flooding

June 21, 2005

In Alberta we have recently experienced some very heavy rainfall and associated flooding. This flooding has over-run the Barebones campground and it will most likely NOT BE OPEN again in time for Barebones. We are very sorry for the inconveniences this will cause to people that have signed up for the camping. We will be refunding those people their camping fees and asking them to make alternative arrangements. Unfortunately we are not able to provide group bookings at this late date. We are suggesting the following alternatives:

Hotel in Red Deer :

Camping in Red Deer :

  • Westerner Campground in Red Deer has RV sites, but no tenting. www.westernercampground.com
  • Crooked Tree R.V. Park has RV sites, but no tenting. Phone: 403-314-9577

Camping around Red Deer (in order of shortest distance from Red Deer ):

For more accommodation information, visit www.tourismreddeer.net/Members/AcomMemb/Campgrounds.htm.

Again, we are terribly sorry about the inconvenience this will cause, and hope that you understand the difficulties brought on by the flooding for the Barebones organizers and the campground operators.
