Special Newcomer's Offer
The next orienteering event in the Bow Valley takes place on the Labour Day holiday. Over 100 runners from across Western Canada and the North-western USA will descend on Canmore to take part in the 2008 Barebones Orienteering weekend. The annual Barebones festival is renowned for its high quality events and its relaxed atmosphere – it is a great event for beginners and novices to enjoy a couple of orienteering races and improve their navigational skills and strategies.
This year we are making a special offer to residents of the Bow Valley to encourage locals to participate in Barebones and experience the fun of orienteering in their own backyard. On Saturday August 30th there will be two races at the Canmore Nordic Centre. The first race is “The Prologue” – a short distance event with a staggered start and lots of controls on a short and very fast course. The second race is “The Pursuit” – a longer distance event with a chasing start and somewhat more technical navigation. We are making the following offer to Bow Valley residents:
The Canmore Pursuit Special offer:
- two races. The Prologue and The Pursuit at the Canmore Nordic Centre
- free electronic timing card rental
- free pre-race clinic
- free post-race review (following the Prologue)
- free club membership, valid until the end of 2009
- Cost: $40 for adults, $20 for juniors (under 20)
- Cost: families & groups (of two or three): $40 + $5 per additional adult:
Additional races during Barebones weekend
Other races on the Barebones weekend cost $20/adult each race or $10/junior. Additional races are:
- Sunday Aug 31st: 10am Mount Yamnuska race (park at Rocky Mountain YMCA & take shuttle bus to competition area)
- Sunday Aug 31st: 9pm Night Orienteering at Rocky Mountain YMCA (bring your headlamp)
- Monday Sept 1st: 10am Relay at Rocky Mountain YMCA (teams of 4. We will help you find a team if you want)

A very limited number of spots will be available for entry on the day, so avoid disappointment and pre-register via the website.
